Search fields have a dual purpose. First, they provide the mechanism by which an accurate count of records is extracted from every file processed. Second, as a means to store any element contained within an X12 EDI file as a searchable field that can be used to find the file from within the management portal.
Record counts are crucial to the experience of the management portal, and are necessary for record count numbers as seen below.
Search fields are used to drive the Element Name drop down box when searching for X12 EDI files in the messages page of the management portal.
Both record counts and search field are controlled by the Tctep.x12.tEdiSearchField table. More information about the table can be found in the data dictionary section.
